报告内容简介:

Botanical gardens can provide highly rewarding experiences for their visitors, whether an individual’s goal is to study the plant collections, delight in the beauty of specimens, seek refuge from a hectic work life, or simply to reconnect with the natural world. But in the beginning of this XXIe Century, Botanical gardens cannot be only oriented only in plant collections, conservation, education, landscape and research. Increasingly, botanical gardens are recognizing that they can no longer serve as insular organizations that limit their offerings to those occurring within their gates. Many are now reaching out to their communities to address very real needs of residents and neighborhoods. Botanical gardens exist because of its public and social role. Most of botanical gardens are funded by public money and therefore must have a strong social role as well as a positive impact on the daily life of citizens. Because of the numerous critical environmental challenges and health issues of the XXIe century, this lecture will addressed how Botanical Gardens, can contribute to the sustainable development of modern cities as well as educate people about the new challenge humanity is facing towards biodiversity losses and other environmental issues.
